Filling two glasses of wine or beer during the evening will increase the weight by a few pounds. It can also be your secret of longevity, which will help you to experience the ninth decade of life, the conclusions of the new study.
According to a survey in which media from the region, analyzed the habits of people who lived for more than 90 years, scientists have found that drinking alcohol is one of the five key factors of longevity. Those who drank two glasses of wine or beer each evening had an 18 percent lower risk of premature death compared to those who did not have this habit.
California University professor Claudia Kawas (Claudia) analyzed the habits of 1,700 people who in 2003 were 90 years and over. During the research she discovered that a few pounds more than the ideal weight, but certainly not obesity, also reduces the risk of premature death by about 3 percent.
Kawas also says that older people who dedicated two hours a day to hobbies had a 21 percent lower risk of premature death, and that those who practiced between 15 and 45 minutes a day reduced this risk by 11 percent. Consuming two cups of coffee a day reduces the risk of premature death by 10 percent, she said.
Previous studies have suggested that mild alcohol consumption reduces the risk of heart attack and infarction, media reports.
